Swansong

Well, it's been a while and a whole pile has happened since I recorded anything. A few weekends ago we beat New Brighton away and were crowned Trophy champions. We'd topped the league by a good distance and topped teh campaign off with a 47 - 0 win. I was given Man of the Match but I think there was an element of sympathy in the award. I'd played my arse off along with everyone else but I lasted the full 80 and everyone was pretty pleased.

So, we celebrated that win briefly but we were straight into the semifinals of the cup. We lined out last weekend against Suburbs and were given the tough encounter we'd expected. They'd been impressive all through the year and probably should have beaten us in the round robing stages. We manage to squeak past them after extra time in a game which had it all. I came off after 50 minutes. I'd been pretty rubbish and spent most of my time locked in a niggly battle with my oposite number. We have plenty of history and there's no love lost but I was really disappointed that I couldn't rise above it. We effectively neutralised each other and it took away from my enjoyment.

Anyway, the tussle became academic in the end. Their failure to use the wind in the second half of extra time meant that we were able to keep the ball in their half and some monster touch finders from Cluffy neutralised their attacking running. We eeked past and were pleased as punch we'd managed it.

Before the game was over the word came through that our opponents would be HSOB. They'd run out to a 17-0 lead and won 17-12 against Burnside. As against us earlier in the season they flew out of the blocks early and we'll have to neutralise that tomorrow.

So, that's it. The butterflies area at me alraeady and I'm pretty nervous about tomorrow. It's likely to be my final game of rugby as a player and I'm really hoping for the win. I'll fill you in tomorrow on the result. Fingers crossed
